TIPS Contract

Ubu was part of a team that perpared a Policy Paper exploring a feasible Industrial Partnership Agreement linked to the automotive sector with reciprocal benefits for Nigeria and South Africa. Prepared short papers on the petrochemical and the metal industry value chains in Nigeria as they pertain to the automotive sector and held a dialogue session with South Africa component manufacturers on the outcomes of the research.

Togo Invest Contract

Ubu conceptualised the establishment of an institution known as Togo Invest and designed the governance framework for the Togo Invest Agency to enable the country to undertake key infrastructure projects and facilitate investment for these projects in Togo. These were conceptualised and developed under the Togo Presidency Projects Unit. As the projects matured to feasibility, they were transferred for oversight under Togo Invest. Work also included strategising on the management of the country’s oil reserves.

Togo PPU Project

Ubu provided strategic advisory to the Togolese Government on the concept of an economic corridor for Togo, focused on key infrastructure projects which included a road and rail corridor, port redevelopment, ICT and energy projects. Ubu conceptualised the economic corridor and coordinated and oversaw pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for the port and rail corridor as well as an energy project. Further work was undertaken on spatial planing for the city of Lomé. Ubu also oversaw several geological surveys for Togo confirming mineral resources, strengthening the economic rationale for the rail corridor.

Nissan Motor Eqypt S.A.E

Ubu provided technical assistance for the development of a policy framework to develop the Egypt Automotive Industry Development Strategy.

Nissan South Africa

Ubu has provided strategic advisory support to Nissan South Africa on automotive strategy on the continent.

NAAMSA/NUMSA

UBU facilitated the dialogue between OEM executives and NUMSA leadership with the purpose of fast-tracking social transformation in South Africa’s automotive sector in order enable the achievement of the South African Automotive Masterplan objectives (Paper on Social Transformation in the Auto Sector: Paper on Proposed Bargaining Structure).

Ivory Coast

Ubu undertook a study to outline the potential scope of an Automotive Development Programme for Cote d’Ivoire, focusing on major automotive development opportunities.

Manganese Producers Consortium

Ubu served as a Steering Committee’s Independent Chairperson and acted as the main point of contact for the MPC SteerCom members. Ubu led the SteerCom and focused on strategic matters aligned to the MPC’s objectives and setting high governance standards.

Nigeria – National Automotive Industry Development Plan for the Nigerian Automotive Council (NAC)

Ubu assisted the then NAC in drafting a National Automotive Industry Development Plan and facilitated capacity building to enable an understanding of the critical requirements necessary for implementation of such a plan.

Togo Presidency Project – Mineral Deposit Survey

Ubu oversaw various geological surveys undertaken by Benzu in Togo confirming various mineral deposits for future development.

German Development Cooperation (GIZ)

Ubu was part of the team that crafted the Draft Automotive Policy Framework for Stakeholder consultation. This work included sector analysis, key developments, dynamics and trends in the global automotive value chain; analysis of global value chain market developments (production and consumer segments, supply and demand, product mix etc).

Ghana JET Project

UBU led the technical panel that supported the Ghana Ministry of Trade and Industry to develop and roll out the Ghana Automotive Development Policy and the Ghana Automotive Components Manufacturing Strategy.

African Association of Automotive Manufacturers (AAAM)

Ubu provides strategic advice to AAAM to enable the development of an African Automotive Industry. Work spans many countries across Africa including Algeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania with more in the pipeline for regional component manufacture in Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Zimbabwe. Ubu participates in several of AAAM’s sub-commmittees including automotive policy and strategy; sustainability and alternate energy powertrain and critical minerals for the battery value chain.

Albright Stonebridge Group (ASG), Togo

Ubu provided professional services to ASG in connection with services to Albright Stonebridge Group’s client, Atlantique Telecom Group (the “Client”) in Togo. In consultation with ASG, Ubu engaged key stakeholders at the highest levels of the Togolese Government to increase understanding of the Client’s position related to its tax dispute and the negative implications to Togo of a drawn-out dispute and legal battle.

Automotive Industry Transformation Fund

Ubu developed a proposal for an initial AITF concept for the National Association of Automotive Component and Allied Manufacturers (NAACAM).

Togo Transport Corridor

UBU was involved in the research and conceptualisation of the Togo Transport Corridor for the Office of the President in the Republic of Togo. Our team of experts provided valuable insights and recommendations to ensure the success of the project.

The Ghana Automotive Development Programme

UBU played a key role in the development of the Ghana Automotive Development Programme, which was a comprehensive policy package developed for the Ministry of Trade and Industry in Ghana.

Togo Invest

UBU was involved in the development of the institutional, legal, governance framework for Togo Invest. Togo Invest is a state-owned holding company responsible for the Togo Corridor, a major transportation route in West Africa.

The South African Automotive Master Plan

UBU played a significant role in the facilitation and advocacy programme for labour and Automotive OEMs to implement the South African Automotive Masterplan.

The Autopact Programme

UBU, along with the AAAM and B&M Analysts, co-created the concept of the African AutoPact, which has now been adopted by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the DTIC). The AutoPact programme Phase 1 was completed in July 2019.

China Merchants Port Holdings

We developed of the special economic zone to include various industrial and commercial projects, helping facilitate the partnership with China Merchants Port Holdings, who is a now a partner in the Special Economic Zone around the Port of Lome.

The African Association of Automotive Manufacturers

At UBU, we have been actively involved in advocating for the objectives of the African Association of Automotive Manufacturers (AAAM) by collaborating with governments and leaders in the auto sector. 

The Nigeria Automotive Development Programme

UBU was involved in the development of the policy framework for the Nigeria Automotive Development Programme, which was carried out for the Nigerian Ministry of Trade and Investment.

Presidency of Togo

 

UBU was involved in designing and executing a two-phase exploration programme on the iron ore resource in the Bassar region for the Presidency in Togo.
